Prof. dr. B.W.J.H. Peninx. After spending several years as an academic researcher in the USA (at the National Institutes of Health and Wake Forest University), in 2007 Penninx was appointed Full Professor at the VU University Medical Center. Penninx is co-director of the EMGO+ Institute of Health and Care Research, and member of the management team of the Neuroscience Campus Amsterdam. Her research area is the pathophysiology and consequences of depressive and anxiety disorders, and examining innovative treatment opportunities. She is the principal investigator of the Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (www.nesda.nl), an ongoing, national longitudinal study on depressive and anxiety patients. She also leads several intervention studies on pharmaceutical and behavioral interventions for depressed subjects. Research funding comes from the Netherlands Scientific organization, the EU, NIH as well as patient organizations.She currently supervises 8 postdocs/assistant professors and over 20 PhD-students. She (co)authored more than 650 peer reviewed international articles and has an H-Index of above 80.
