Dr. D. (Diana) van Bergen is an associate professor in the department of Education and Pedagogics, the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. She is also a parttime senior researcher for 113 Suicide Prevention the Netherlands. Her academic work focuses on sexual minority and ethnic minority adolescents and emerging adults; she investigates topics such as suicidality, suicide prevention, stigmatization, psychological wellbeing, and family upbringing.
Diana is the principle investigator for several ZonMW and NWO research projects on sexual- and ethnic minority youth. Examples include a web based CBT treatment for suicidal ideation for same-sex and both-sex attracted youth, and a research project investigating the best interests of cultural/religious minority foster children. Her methodological interests include psychosocial autopsy studies in suicide research, qualitative interviews with young people, and qualitative medical case file studies.
