Prof Ad Kerkhof is heading a research group in the study of suicide and suicide prevention. He has over 30 years of research experience in suicidology. He was Editor in Chief of Crisis, the scientific Journal of the International Association for Suicide Prevention. He was one of the authors of the Multidisciplinary Guideline for the Assessment and Treatment of Suicidal Behaviour (2012) and the initiator of the Pitstop Study implementing this guideline in mental health care through e-learning supported train-the- peer- trainer education. Recently his team developed a screening tool for suicidal adolescents in schools. He co-authored over 200 peer reviewed international articles and 20 books. Ad Kerkhof originally was trained as a researcher at the department of Mathematical Psychology at the Nijmegen University and at the department of Methodology at the Leiden University, and started his academic career as a teacher in statistics. In 2015 he wrote a research agenda for ZONMW for the years 2016-2020, which was awarded with 3,2 million Euro by the Ministry of Health. In 2010 he was awarded, by the students, with the title of best teacher of the Vrije University. At present he is chair of the Amsterdam Institute for postgraduate education in Health Care Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy.
